A verification confirms that equipment meets defined requirements for its intended use. Create a separate requirement for that check; an annual external calibration remains a different obligation. Select the actual work type and evidence policy rather than recording a check as an internal calibration.
Prepare the criteria
Verification and functional checks without an accreditation claim may use Defined acceptance criteria without a controlled procedure. Record explicit criteria and a meaningful justification of at least 20 characters. Eligible forms offer a criteria suggestion: edit it to identify the actual method, check standard and limits before saving. Reusable requirement templates can retain reviewed criteria for later explicit selection.
Select structured quantitative measurements when the check requires readings. Keep other applicable standard, uncertainty, conformity and approval controls. A class or maximum permissible error is not automatically an uncertainty value. Record check results without a certificate is available for these check activities; it does not waive evidence or review.
Record the check
- Open the verification or functional-check event from the equipment's requirement.
- Select the linked check standard through Reference standards and retain its applicable current evidence.
- Open the measurements task. Record the quantity, unit, nominal value and actual reading using the lighter check form.
- Enter the lower and upper limits for the reading. Metra calculates error separately using reading minus reference, or reading minus nominal when no reference reading is entered.
- Save the measurement revision and inspect the backend's evaluated outcome and error. Missing limits or readings do not establish a passing result.
- Complete the result summary and other required tasks, then submit for independent approval.
For a nominal 100 g check with acceptable readings from 99.95 to 100.05 g, a reading of 100.02 g has an error of +0.02 g and lies within the reading limits. If a specification expresses permissible error as ±0.05 g, establish the corresponding reading limits from the applicable reference; do not enter ±0.05 as absolute readings.
Use advanced measurement controls when the method requires reference readings, repeat observations, adjustments, uncertainty or conformity evidence. Do not fabricate U, k or an accreditation claim to complete a simple check. Where those policies are required, the lighter form does not bypass them.
Review and retain evidence
The activity appears as Verification or Functional check in the work and review journey. Saving creates a new fixed measurement revision; submission freezes the evidence for the independent reviewer. Subsequent edits do not rewrite approved work. Saving a failed or indeterminate reading raises a provisional concern and stops use. Later correction or passing as-left evidence does not remove the concern or release equipment. Review Calibration concerns and stop use and obtain independent quality review and a separate release decision.
Review the standard, nominal value, reference or reading, calculated error, reading limits and outcome. Review uncertainty and conformity only where the frozen requirement calls for them. The performer and submitter cannot approve their own work.
